In response to the Theme of “Character and Events”, I made an interactive Banh Chung scene, showing the myth and cultural events that invented the dish while exploring the concept of environment and events and time controlled by the user.
In the ancient conception, the Earth is square, hence Banh Chung has a square shape to reflect the Earth. Besides, it emphasises the important role of rice and nature in the water rice culture.
By exploring further that mythological notion, I examined the shape of the cake as well as the design, and noticed the grid formed by the straps makes it look like a rice paddy field.
I made the crops growing on the field one by one, creating a wavy and magical effect. The spinning clouds are added to suggest time. To add the mythological factor, I model an interactive spiral cloud that wraps around the cake to tell the story of how nature and the environment form the shape of the dish.
The result allows the user to control what to see (the object or the myth events) by hovering their mouse, and see the events of the forming of the traditional cake.
